New season trend… Embroidered wedding dresses

Who doesn’t love an intricately embroidered gown, covered with pretty details and sparkling beads from head to toe? We know we do! And this year, embroidered wedding dresses are one of the biggest trends to hit the bridal catwalks.

Embroidered lace is a surefire way to ramp up the wow factor on the big day, and at WED2B we have plenty of styles that will do just that but without the hefty price tag to match! Read on for the low down on embroidered wedding dresses, why we love them and a few of our stylists’ absolute favourites…

What are embroidered wedding dresses?

Embroidered wedding dresses often feature intricate floral or patterned embroidery. This embellishment can turn simple gowns and veils into show-stoppers and designers often use embroidered lace fabric, as it’s very versatile. It's also perfect for lots of different looks, from vintage to classic, as it comes in a wide range of textures, patterns and styles.

Another big trend is the use of lace appliqués. These are a great alternative to expensive, all-over lace and are often used on illusion tulle sleeves and necklines.

Types of lace…

Chantilly: Named after the city of Chantilly in France, this French lace is expensive and highly sought after. It’s a delicate and dainty lace, which usually features flowers and ribbons on a plain net background. It has a super romantic look and is often used for sleeves and overlay because it's sheer.

Corded lace: Sometimes called the queen of lace, this French style has a distinct floral pattern outlined with corded detail. Characterised by its 3D effect, it’s frequently decorated with beads and often used for cleverly placed appliqués, rather than all-over.

Guipure lace: A cotton-based lace with dense interwoven patterns that create a dramatic statement. Guipure is heavier than other lace and is usually limited to structured silhouettes or used as an appliqué to highlight design features.

Knitted lace: A softer lace with no tulle back, which makes it flexible and easier to contour around the body. It’s most commonly found in a floral or leaf design and is very popular for boho style wedding dresses

Embroidered Lace: A growing bridal trend, embroidered lace has delicate patterns that are tightly stitched onto an illusion base, such as tulle, to give the appearance of an appliqué. Embroidered lace comes in a variety of patterns, often with two or more thread colours blended together.

Metallic lace: Metallic lace includes metal threads, which give the finish a metallic sheen and sparkle. It’s very popular with brides looking for a vintage feel.

So, now you know your corded from your Chantilly, here are some of our favourite ways to look luscious in lace…

Pretty perfect

Gorgeous Caitlyn is a great example of beautiful embroidered lace. With its layers of soft tulle lined with ivory, its classic A-line silhouette and its traditional lace design, it’s exceptionally  romantic.

An absolute classic

The sweetheart bodice is overlaid with a stunning illusion neckline to give plenty of coverage. The lace appliqués also fade out down the front of the skirt, drawing the eye towards the waist.

Divine details

Head to toe lace

The open plunging back features soft illusion details, meaning there’s plenty of coverage. The clever concealed zip also gives a snug and comfortable fit.

Celebrate your curves

The soft 'eyelash edge' lace around the neckline gives a delicate finish that’s straight from the catwalks. The sexy stretch fabric also hugs curves in all the right places, just add our Zahara belt for a little more waist definition.

Change it up

To create two different looks, consider styling this dress with our dreamy Blythe overskirt for a romantic daytime look. Then simply remove to reveal your figure-hugging evening outfit! We love the glittering beading, fit for a modern princess (Meghan Markle take note!). The attractive sweetheart and illusion necklines look gorgeous while providing plenty of soft coverage.

True romance

The soft, double layered tulle gets its subtle, flattering colour from the lining fabric. Then the fine metallic beading sits perfectly on top, catching the light from all angles.
