Real Weddings North East: Cheryl and Steven's unique luxury Chateau

A pretty chateau, a dream dress and lots of dancing were the key ingredients for this couple’s big day. Our WED2B Real Weddings North East feature reveals more:

Romance was definitely in the air when Cheryl and Steven met on Valentine’s Day. “We met in a pub,” says Cheryl. “It was a fancy dress night and I was dressed as a sheep!” Steven proposed while the couple were on holiday in Spain four years later. “It was a total shock as we always said we wouldn’t get married,” smiles Cheryl.

The couple booked Le Petit Chateau in Otterburn, Northumberland for the wedding. “We originally wanted to get married in Ibiza but then changed our minds and this was the first venue we visited,” says Cheryl. “It opened last year and we wanted it as soon as we saw it.”

Finding the ‘The One’

Cheryl chose the Callista dress by Anna Sorrano. “I visited the Gateshead WED2B the day after we booked our wedding, just to have a look,” she says. “This was the first dress I saw and I just fell in love. I had to buy it!” She also bought a pretty underskirt and veil to go with it.

Rustic chic

The style for the day was rustic, to complement the venue and its beautiful gardens, and the ceremony was held in the chapel onsite. Afterwards guests enjoyed cocktails and beers outside before the wedding breakfast was served in the main hall, which had been decorated with pretty jars filled with lavender and roses. The three-tier cake, with matching flowers, had layers of ginger, carrot and sponge.

Let’s dance!

Later, once the evening guests had arrived, the couple had their first dance before everyone took to the dance floor. There were also cones of fish and chips to keep guests going. “It was so much fun seeing everyone dancing,” says Cheryl. “At the end night all the ushers had a dance off. It was so funny! I can’t pick a favourite moment, I loved it all. I’d love to do it all again, it just went too fast!”
