Real Weddings Norwich: Magda and David’s intimate destination wedding

Magda and David met in April 2012 through a dating website. “We chatted for few weeks before deciding to meet in a local cocktail bar for a relaxed drink,” says Magda. After nearly five years together following their first date, which included moving from Exeter to Hertfordshire, job changes and buying a house, David proposed when the couple were on holiday in Barbados. “I didn’t expect it at all and I still don’t know how he managed to keep the ring hidden in his suitcase!” smiles Magda. “We had a nice dinner then went for a stroll on the beach. The next thing I knew he was down on one knee.”

Shopping fun

The couple got engaged in March 2017 and wanted to marry the following summer. “I didn’t want to buy my dress a year in advance,” says Magda. “So I decided to visit WED2B in Norwich in December, during our Christmas break at David’s parents. I’d visited few bridal boutiques before, but they had a limited choice of dress sizes and I was struggling to imagine how the true sizes would fit. We went to WED2B on Christmas Eve and it was very quiet. I loved shopping there and seeing so many different dresses in my size made my really happy. Rachel, who helped me try the dresses on, was lovely and I couldn’t have wished for a better experience. It was very friendly and relaxed. I felt I like I could have spent all day there choosing a dress!”

Finding The One

Magda’s sister and David’s mum were with her to help her make the decision.“I tried on a few different styles but when I put the Eleni dress on I just knew it was The One,” she says. “I wanted something elegant, fitted and sophisticated and that’s exactly what the Eleni dress is.”

Island in the sun

“We wanted a small wedding and we wanted sunshine so we started to think about having a destination wedding abroad,” says Magda. “Our first holiday together was in Majorca so it seemed like an obvious choice. We hired a wedding planner to coordinate the process and deal with Majorcan suppliers and then we visited the island in September 2017 to pick the venue. Our wedding planner showed us a variety of locations, everything from large hotels to villas, restaurants and smaller venues. When we saw the Villa Italia hotel in Port Andratx we knew it was the one. It’s a small hotel beautifully set on a hill overlooking Port Andratx bay.”

The big day

The bride started her wedding day by going for a 5k run. “I am a runner and a relaxed run always helps to calm the nerves,” she says. Then, at around midday, the hair and make up artist arrived. “My sister was with me and the three of us watched the royal wedding, as our wedding was on the same day as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s, which was an amazing experience just before my own wedding!” says Magda. “Our church ceremony was at 5pm. We had a catholic church wedding and my Dad walked me down the aisle. It was a lovely service with a singer and piano. Seeing David’s face when I walked up the aisle was the most memorable moment of the day. I have never seen him so happy.”

Canapés and dancing

The ceremony was followed by a reception in the hotel with canapés and cava on arrival and dinner afterwards. Then there was a disco with a DJ until around 2am. “Our colour scheme was vibrant pinks and oranges,” says Magda. “We had lots of fresh flowers on the tables and colourful pompoms hanging from the ceiling. I bought the flat pompoms online and made over 100 of them the evening before the wedding! Our wedding planner organised the cake, which was an orange cake with lemon filling decorated with fresh flowers.”

Small, but perfectly formed

“We wanted a small, intimate and classy wedding and that’s what we had,” says Magda. “Most of our guests made a holiday of it and stayed in Majorca for few days before and after the wedding. I wouldn’t change anything at all, it was a lovely day. The only advice I have for other brides is not to stress too much before the wedding, it will work out perfectly on the day.”
