Sparkle, silver and snowflakes set the scene for this couples winter wedding. Our WED2B Real Weddings Nottingham feature reveals more:

Nic and Dave met at a local pub after being set up on a blind date by Nic’s stepdad. “We had a few drinks and a bowl of chips and hit it off straight away, not wanting to end the conversation!” laughs Nic. “Dave proposed when I was working part time in a pub at the weekends and had to work New Year’s Eve 2015. At five minutes to midnight Dave asked the landlady if he could come behind the bar. Then he got down on one knee! I was so shocked I just shouted, ‘What are you doing?!’ before I cried and obviously said yes!”

Dream dress shopping

“I bought my dress the day I first tried it on,” says Nic. “I wore WED2B’s Constance with a Kensington Amixi jacket over the top for the day. The sweetheart neckline was so delicate and ladylike and it made my waist feel slim! At night I added a ribbon belt to match my colour scheme and took off the jacket, as I wanted to dance the night away. I’m not overly confident about my body but my dress made me feel like great.”

“The ladies were in store were also very helpful and kind, and I didn’t feel embarrassed getting changed in front of them. They offered thoughtful opinions and never looked exasperated when I wanted to keep switching. They also recommended somewhere we could go and celebrate afterwards!”

Finding the perfect venue

The couple chose to marry at Horsley Lodge Golf Club in Derbyshire, close to where they live. “We loved the long sweeping driveway with quaint lantern-style lamps,” says Nic. “The room was elegant yet understated and our wedding coordinator made us feel so at home. The couple were married on 27th January 2018. We wanted a winter wedding and we most certainly go it – it was freezing! We are still so in awe of our venue that we keep going back for lunch.”

A moving ceremony

Nic cried the whole way up the aisle and throughout the ceremony! “I was such an emotional mess!” she's smiles. “I walked in to my brother playing ‘1000 years’ on the acoustic guitar and we had readings called ‘On Your Wedding Day’ by my grandparents and ‘What is Love?’ by my step dad. One funny moment was when we exchanged rings. Mine is shaped to fit around my engagement ring and Dave put it upside down on the wrong finger! We then walked out to “Real Love” by Jess Glynne. Everything we chose was really personal to us, so it was all special.”

Lets party!

After the ceremony the newlyweds greeted their guests with reception drinks and photos were taken outside. The theme was winter but more specifically sparkle, silver and snowflakes. Nic made all the stationary herself and hired a company to decorate the tables with sequin runners and hurricane vases filled with sugar. She also got over 100 pine cones and covered them in glitter to put on each place setting. “I also got some silver chocolate coins and made “For Richer for Poorer” cards to attach to them for my favours. My table plan was a photo frame filled with pieces of card I had printed and table were named after favourite TV programs.”

A stylishly simple cake

The wedding cake was made of plain tiers, bought from Marks and Spencer, that had been decorated by a friend with fondant snowflakes, glitter and ribbon. “I absolutely loved it!” says Nic. “The cake was very reasonably priced and very tasty!”

Making an entrance

“One of the most memorable moments was walking in o the wedding breakfast after they announced us as the new Mr & Mrs Llewellyn!” says Nic. “We then enjoyed the most amazing soup, chicken and brownie! After the food came speeches by my Dad, Dave and his best man Alex.”

Dancing the night away

After dinner, Nic changed into a fabulous pair of sparkly trainers before the evening guests began to arrive. “We then cut the cake and there was an evening buffet of hot meat cobs and chips – perfect for the cold evening!” she says. “Our first dance song was an unusual choice, ‘Take Me Away’ by 4Strings. One of the best moments was when we both turned at the same time and beckoned to our friends and family to join us and everyone came and danced with us. Then we danced the rest of the night away!”
